A Mid-Face Lift is a surgical procedure that addresses the sagging skin and wrinkles below the eyes that often creates a tired or sad appearance. The procedure tightens the center of the face, reducing wrinkles and signs of aging, and rejuvenates the center of face from corner of eyes to sides of mouth. Underlying muscles and fat that have sagged are lifted back up onto the cheekbones. The result is a softer, younger appearance in the mid-face.

How long does the procedure take?

During a Mid-Face Lift, a small incision is made above each ear in the temple area, hidden behind the hairline, or concealed beneath the eyelashes in the lower eyelids. The procedure typically takes 1 hour, depending on the combination of additional procedures.

How long is the recovery process?

After staying in the recovery area for approximately 2 hours after the procedure, your designated responsible party will drive you home the same day where you will need to rest with as little activity as possible for 2-5 days

How long can I expect swelling, bruising or discomfort after the procedure?

You can expect bruising around and below all of the incision points. Instructions are given to you ahead of surgery to help reduce bruising, but we typically expect bruising to last up to 2 weeks.

Swelling will peak at 3-5 days, and be largely resolved by 2 months post-op. Things to help with swelling include:

  • Constant ice application

  • Keeping the head elevated

  • Reducing activity levels

Common post-op sensations that should resolve by 7-14 days after the surgery include:

  • Discomfort at the surgical site

  • Itching

  • General tightness around the incision area

When Can I Begin Wearing Makeup?

You may begin wearing makeup several days after your procedure except around the incision sites, but we recommend waiting until the doctor has cleared you to begin wearing it, which is usually 7-10 days after surgery at your first post-op appointment.

When Can I Return to Work?

Patients can typically return to work 7-10 days after the surgery. We recommend not lifting children or heavy items, or exercising for the two weeks following surgery.

Related Procedures
